Farmingdale Memorial Day Parade

Earlier this week, my Garden State Skating Club participated in the annual Memorial Day Parade in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Not only did my club celebrate the brave men and women who fought for our country, but we were also honoring everyone who serves today. We thank everyone for their services and are so grateful for everything they do for us. 

This parade also allowed my club to celebrate our skaters' accomplishments for the whole town to see. The weather held out and our skaters got to show off their beautiful costumes by parading in their competition dresses. National, sectional, and regional competitors received beautiful sashes to wear as well. Although I was unable to attend due to a sprained ankle, I was there in spirit and am proud of all the successful skaters I have the privilege to share the ice with. Way to go Garden State Skating Club skaters!

March Skating Madness- Open House Free Skating Clinic

THANK YOU to the Middletown Sports Complex and Learn-to-Skate coaches as well as my skating friends who came out to help me lead an Open House Free Skating Clinic event on March 31. I'm especially thankful to the rink for donating the one-hour free ice time and skate rentals and to my colleagues and peers who sacrificed their time to teach and perform at my event during the Easter holiday weekend. It is through your generosity and support that we helped bring our community together and brightened a child's day by teaching something new and positive and fun.  It truly is rewarding to see skating bring so many smiles and much laughter to everyone and all enjoyed a safe and fun-filled day at the rink.  I was pleasantly surprised to see over 20+ families come out and participate in the free skating festivities because it was not only Easter holiday but also the weather was a balmy 55 degrees after we just got battered with four nor'easters in three weeks, and another winter storm forecasted to hit us tomorrow!


Remember to spread the word and let everyone know "IT'S GREAT TO SKATE!"
and it's never too late!!!

THANK YOU to Garden State Skating Club (GSSC) and Howell Ice Arena for all your help and support in making my National Skating Month open house event so successful.  I want to especially thank the GSSC coaches and my amazing club member friends who took time out of their busy weekend schedule to come out and teach the free group lessons, perform their programs in the skating exhibition and help me when and wherever I needed them. We had a great turn out with more than 55 kids and adults participating.  There were many happy faces and much laughter and all enjoyed and had a great time on the ice. My event brought the community closer together as it was a great family bonding activity and many children made new friends.  People connected with each other because they all shared a common interest which was building confidence in learning to skate and developing fundamental skating skills.  I hope my event will encourage many to be physically active and adopt a more healthy lifestyle and active living. The event successfully increased local awareness and participation in the sport as families inquired about the rink's Learn-to-Skate program and also interested in joining our skating club.
